Michael Triegel's Metamorphosis of the Gods

Last Saturday, during the opening of his exhibition at the Museum der bildenden Künste in Leipzig (Germany), Michael Triegel (1968) has shared his portrait of Pope Benedict XVI with the public. It is absolutely remarkable to see how Michael Triegel created a beautiful painting of the pope as a fragile human being. He did this completely in the traditional style of formal papal portraits. It are his other paintings however that really humble the visitors. The exhibition shows a long list of exceptional paintings by his hand. They add all kinds of modern comments on paintings that draw on mythology or Christian themes. In terms of style they refer clearly to the Renaissance and Mannerism.

The exhibition "Metamorphosis of the Gods" (Verwandlung der Götter) runs till Februari 7, 2011.
