A Rare Combination - A PocketWizard Enables a Leica M9 to Trigger Canon Speedlites

When looking for a flexible method to use my Leica M9 with a couple of strobes I learned that the solution was just sitting in my Canon bag. By configuring my PocketWizard MiniTT1 in "Basic Trigger" mode and mounting it on my M9 I could all of a sudden use all my Canon Speedlites. Of course, the setup does not support E-TTL and does not make any sense in a non-Canon environment. But if you have such a trigger somewhere in your bag, I can tell you, it works just fine.

Added August 16: The full set of equipment tested consists of:

  • Leica M9
  • PocketWizard MiniTT1 (Canon edition)
  • PocketWizard FlexTT5 (Canon edition) 3x
  • Canon Speedlite 580 EX II 2x
  • Canon Speedlite 430 EX II

Soon I hope to test using some classic studio strobes in this context too. It should be no problem.
