As a young photographer Francesca Woodman has taken many interesting self-portraits with a self-timer. On these pictures she exposes herself in unusual positions in all kinds of spaces, as if there is a story to be shared with the observer. However, the story is never conveyed and continues to be an unresolved mystery. Her work is often compared with pictures by Duane Michaels and Cindy Sherman.
Like the unanswered questions raised by her pictures, Francesca Woodman has left the world also with many questions about herself. She committed suicide in 1981 at the age of 22.
At this moment her pictures are being exhibited at the Palazzo della Ragione in Milan (Italy). You can visit the exhibition till October 24, 2010.
